Seven Athletes from Seven different schools have been named the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.
Each athlete was nominated by his or her coach. All statistics incurred from December 5th through December 10th.
Below is a look at each Athlete of the Week by sport:
Girls Basketball
Name: Katie Logan
Grade: Senior
School: Brookfield High School
Stats: 9.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 4.3 apg, 5.1 spg
Coaches Quote: “Katie Logan came up huge for us on both ends of the floor in both our matchups last week against Campbell and Columbiana. She lead us in assists and steals both games and against Columbiana she lead us in rebounding.,” according to head coach Ken Forsythe.
Name: Reagan Edwards
Grade: Sophomore
School: Crestview High School
Stats: 5 points, 6 steals, 3 blocks vs. East Liverpool. 4 assists, 2 blocks vs. Champion
Coaches Quote: “Reagan is a true point guard who had a great week setting up her teammates and defending our opponents’ best players. She is a tough defensive player and skilled ballhandler. Reagan leads our team through her words and actions,” according to head coach Aaron Blatch.
Name: Ava Hulett
Grade: Sophomore
School: Mineral Ridge High School
Stats: 15 points 5 rebounds and 4 steals
Coaches Quote: “Ava helped lead us to victory over our rival McDonald with 15 points 5 rebounds and 4 steals. She played extra minutes and kept us in the game and always shows true competitive spirit and plays at a high level,” according to head coach Amy Harrison.
Boys Basketball
Name: David Moore
Grade: Junior
School: Campbell Memorial High School
Stats: 1 game- 23pts 8 rebs 3 st 3 blk
Coaches Quote: “David played a well rounded game for us and made a lot of shots when we needed a basket.,” according to head coach Nick Canterino.
Name: Kalen (KJ) Turner
Grade: Senior
School: Liberty High School
Stats: Averaged 20 points a game this past week with 4 assists and 6 rebounds.
Coaches Quote: “KJ is a dynamic shooting guard, with an amazing shooting ability. We are looking forward to seeing that continue as the season progresses. ,” according to head coach Levon Lamb.
Wrestling
Name: Owen McDevitt
Grade: Senior
School: Jackson Milton High School
Stats: 126 lb Riverside Rumble Champion 6-0
Coaches Quote: “Owen was crowned the 126 lb Champion at the Riverside Rumble Tournament. Owen was 6-0 on the weekend and knocked off a Division II state ranked opponent, ” according to head coach Brian Weidenthal.
