Seven Athletes from Six different schools have been named the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.
Each athlete was nominated by his or her coach. All statistics incurred from December 12th through December 17th.
Below is a look at each Athlete of the Week by sport:
Girls Basketball
Name: Mandy Cardinal
Grade: Freshman
School: Garfield High School
Stats: 16pts 4rebs 3ast 8stls 1blk vs Campbell win 55-13 & 16pts 7rebs 5ast 2stls 2blk vs Champion win 46-43
Coaches Quote: “Mandy has stepped up her game each week and become a key part of our early season success. Her length and athleticism is becoming problematic for teams to guard her in the halfcourt,” according to head coach Aaron Gilbert.
Name: Lexi Blower
Grade: Sophomore
School: Crestview High School
Stats: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists vs. Newton Falls. 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks vs. Minerva. Team went 2-0.
Coaches Quote: “Lexi is a strong post player who is off to an excellent start her sophomore season. She is a good finisher around the basket and a rim-protector on the other end of the floor. She has worked hard to improve her free throw shooting, which showed in a 4/4 effort vs. Newton Falls. Lexi is an unselfish player who has played a key role in our 7-1 start. ,” according to head coach Aaron Blatch.
Boys Basketball
Name: Wyatt Miller
Grade: Senior
School: Crestview High School
Stats: Stats vs Youngstown Liberty: 20 points, 5 Rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals Stats vs Heartland Christian: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists
Coaches Quote: “Wyatt Miller is our most consistent player this year and last season. He is a great team leader on and off the court. Wyatt outworks everyone in practices and games. Shooting 60% FG playing inside/outside,” according to head coach Rick Gates.
Name: Jordan Moore
Grade: Sophomore
School: Mineral Ridge High School
Stats: Vs. McDonald – 4 pts, 10 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block & Vs. Springfield – 11 pts, 8 rebs, 1 steal
Coaches Quote: “Jordan’s work ethic is second to none. He works hard every second he is on the basketball court, whether that is practice or a game. I am fortunate to be able to coach a tough, coachable kid like Jordan. The sky’s the limit for him as he continues to improve and mature,” according to head coach Eric Harper.

School: Campbell Memorial High School

Coaches Quote: “David continues to be an offensive leader for us. He’s an efficient player who is doing a great job scoring the basketball,” according to head coach Nick Canterino.
Name: Aaren Romigh
Grade: Senior
School: Jackson-Milton High School
Stats: Over the last week Aaren averaged 19.0ppg and 6.7 rpg
Coaches Quote: “Aaren has averaged 19ppg over the last two games and played exceptionally well on the defensive end. Aaren also had the game winning basket against McDonald with less than 5 second to go in the game on Tuesday evening,” according to head coach Stephen Procopio.
Wrestling
Name: Aidan King
Grade: Junior
School: Waterloo High School
Stats: 7-0 with six pins at the Waterloo D3 Classic hosted on 12/16-12-17
Coaches Quote: “Aidan steam rolled the competition at the 2022 Waterloo D3 Classic on his way to his first ever D3 title. Aidan put in a ton of off season work this year and it showed at last weekends tournament,” according to head coach John Foster.
