Five Athletes from four different schools have been named the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.

Each athlete was nominated by his or her coach. All statistics incurred from January 16th through January 21st.

Below is a look at each Athlete of the Week by sport:

 

Girls Basketball

 

Name: Natalee Albert

Grade:  Senior

School:  Newton Falls High School

Stats:  Natalee Had a Game this week in which she scored 11pts 8 rebounds, and Tied a School Record with 11 Steals!

Coaches Quote:  “Natalee Albert is a rare student, who is a creative problem-solver, always cheerful and dependable, continuously meets deadlines, and behaves professionally.  She treats others, especially the youth, with respect and dignity that would be commendable for anyone of any age,” according to head coach Mark Baker.

 

Name: Angeliz Diaz

Grade:  Junior

School: Campbell Memorial High School

Stats:  5 PPG, 4 RPG, 2 APG, 3 SPG, 0.5 BPG

Coaches Quote:  “Angeliz has progressed at an exceptional rate this year, considering that it is her first year playing High School Basketball.  She is one of the offensive and defensive leaders on this team. A lot has been thrown at her as she is one of the primary ball handlers on this team, but she never backs down to a challenge.  She works hard and makes sure she gets better every day.  Way to go Angeliz,” according to head coach John Childers.

 

Name: Emily Downey

Grade:  Junior

School:  Crestview High School

Stats:  

Coaches Quote:  “Emily is an outstanding teammate and team captain, who made major contributions in our wins over Champion and Brookfield. She regularly guards one of the opponent’s best perimeter scorers and always makes them work each possession. She is also a strong shooter and passer, and made some big plays down the stretch to help us beat Brookfield. I’m very proud of Emily on and off the court,” according to head coach Aaron Blatch.

 

Name: Marissa Levensky

Grade:  Sophomore

School: Labrae High School

Stats:  6.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.3 spg, 2.3 apg

Coaches Quote:  “Marissa has been a major contributor in all areas for our team.  Her effort on both offense and defense has been a key factor in our successes this week.  Marissa is a young leader for our team who displays a positive attitude and solid work ethic,” according to head coach Mandy Rowe.

 

Bowling

Name:  Angeleah Matzye

Grade:  Senior

School:  Campbell Memorial High School

Stats:  Bowled a 201-205

Coaches Quote:  “Angie is the emotional leader and steadying force of the team.  The example she sets for others can not underestimated. Her multiple 200 scores have to key to our recent victories,” according to head coach Tim Malone.
