Nine Athletes from seven different schools have been named the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.

Each athlete was nominated by his or her coach. All statistics incurred during the first few weeks of spring sports.

Below is a look at each Athlete of the Week by sport

Football

School: Crestview Rebels

Player Name: Max Hawkins

Player Grade: 11

Player Stats: Max rushed 17 times for 171 yards and 1 touchdown. He recorded 7 tackles, 1 QB pressure, and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown.

Cross Country

 

Name: Dominic Pappagallo

Grade:  Junior

School:  Mineral Ridge High School

Stats:  Meet Runner-up of 132 D-2 and D-3 Varsity Men with a time of 16 minutes 10 seconds, both a Seasonal Record and a Course Record for him.

Coaches Quote:  “On Saturday 9 September at Walsh-Jesuit High School, Mineral Ridge’s Dom Pappagallo won his second Meet Runner-up honors of the season and led his Men’s XC team to the meet’s best D-3 finish in the D2/3 race there. He was also Meet Runner-up at the Oscar Grant Invitational the previous week and was this year’s Billy Goat Challenge Individual Meet Champion at McDonald.” according to head coach Ron Toth.

Quote:  Per Coach Matt Vuckovic, Chris had a few rounds shooting above his expectations.  He put in some extra work on our off days and found his groove again.  He is ready to put the team on his back down the final stretch.

Grade:  Freshman

School:  Champion High School

Stats: shot a 44 on 9/7/2023

Coaches Quote:  “Our team played Bristol on 9/7/2023 at Bristolwood Golf course. Brilea was the number four player for Champion. Brilea finished the golf round with a 44, which helped drive our team to victory!,” according to head coach Elisa Rosenberger.

 

Name: Trey Rigley

Grade:  Senior

School:  Mineral Ridge High School

Stats:  Shot 37 as Medalist vs rival Mcdonald. Led Team for the lowest score of the season.

Coaches Quote:  “Trey has been working hard on his game, putting in the extra work to get ready for tournament play,” according to head coach Shawn Brown.

Coaches Quote: Kills: “Kendall has done an amazing job on the volleyball court and in the classroom. She leads the team in kills for the season and currently holds the school records for kills in a career, season, and game. Kendall is a leader both on and off the court and has worked very hard to achieve what she has done in her career. It has been great to see the player and person Kendall has become over the course of her volleyball career according to coach Tyler Allen

The Champion Boys Soccer team defeated The Crestview Boys soccer team by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday September 13,2023.  This was truly a team effort. The first goal was scored by Junior Jacob Hall-assisted by Junior Aiden Wright, the game winning goal was made by Freshman Carter Chapin-assisted by Sophomore Westin Kuhns.1 goal for the week
